104 years later

Now 104 years later the school has canceled the band program due to "lack of support". It is sad that this tradition that has lasted for over a century is on the verge of becoming extinct. The Academia Juarez band has played for governors of states and presidents of countries (photos to follow). It has represented The Colonies and Nvo. Casas Grandes throughout Mexico in a grand and memorable way for years. The question of why is yours to answer. Has TV and the internet replaced this discipline for our children. de Tocqueville said that “in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve.” I believe that if we as a comunity allow it we will get the "kind of school programs we deserve".

  2. This is indeed a sad day for the JSA. I hope the community will rally around the school and revive the program. I know that the talent and interest to make this happen exist in the students and the faculty/staff. It is just a matter of bringing the two together.

    Best wishes!

  3. "You won't miss the water until the well runs dry."
I wouldn't trade anything for the over 40 years of supporting band directors and participants as well as our own children in the JSA music program. The problems of extracurricular staffing, scheduling and financing always seem to have been met and the results exceeded expectations.
Band has been an important part of the curriculum in the grade schools as well as at Academia Juarez and many parents have expressed gratitude for the enriched educational experiences of their children.
I have faith that a solution can be found and that the JSA can WIN THE DAY.
